1. Body Shape

Long, cylindrical, and elongated body.

Body tapers toward the tail.

Scaleless, smooth skin (like most catfishes).

2. Color

Back (dorsal side): Greyish to dark brown.

Sides: Silvery or light grey.

Belly: Whitish.

Juveniles are lighter; adults may look darker.

3. Size

Commonly 1–1.5 meters long.

Can grow up to 2–2.4 meters and weigh 40–50 kg in big rivers.

One of the largest freshwater catfishes in India.

4. Head

Head: Broad and flat.
