1. Body Shape

Stout, deep, and elongated body.

Covered with large, thick scales (though some varieties are scale-less, e.g., Mirror Carp, Leather Carp).

2. Color

Generally dark brownish or golden on the back.

Yellowish to silvery sides.

Belly lighter in color.

3. Head & Mouth

Mouth is terminal, slightly protrusible (can extend outward while feeding).

Two pairs of small barbels near the mouth — a key identification feature.

5. Size

Commonly 1–3 kg in ponds, can grow much larger over 20–30 kg
