1. Body

Elongated and laterally compressed body.

Symmetrical with a slightly arched back.

2. Color

Bluish or greenish back.

Silvery sides with a golden/reddish tinge.

Reddish or orange fins (especially pectoral, pelvic, anal, and caudal fins).

3. Head & Mouth

Head relatively small compared to body.

Mouth is small, terminal, and slightly protruding (not upturned like carp species such as Catla).

4. Size

Commonly grows 1–2 feet in length, but can reach over 1 meter and weigh more than 25 kg
