Koi Fish

1. Body Shape

Small, oval, and laterally compressed body.

Covered with large, rough (ctenoid) scales.

2. Color

Olive-green to brownish on the back.

Yellowish or golden on the belly.

Fins often reddish or dark at the edges.

3. Head & Mouth

Head is small and blunt.

Mouth is small, slightly upward.

Has sharp spines on the operculum (gill cover), which makes it hard to swallow by predators.

4. Size

Commonly 10–20 cm, rarely grows up to 25 cm.

Weight usually 100–300 g.
